I almost got there, but the next part of Trade In Fantasy is 25-40 paragraphs short of completion. Lots of “might have beens” lie behind that failure, and any two of them would have definitely yielded a different outcome (one might not quite been enough). If I can finish it in time, I’ll post it in the Thursday “B-” slot; otherwise, look for it next week.

It sounds like there’s no post for today, December 3rd, 2024! Sometimes taking a break is just what’s needed. Do you have any plans for today, or are you catching up on reading or something fun instead?

There were some parts of the unfinished post that I had skimped on for lack of time – I was desperately trying to finish something publishable by the routine (and self-imposed) deadline (I don’t miss posting very often). You can measure the intensity of those efforts by the fact that from about Noon on Sunday until 11PM on Monday, I was continuously writing – but after re-writing the same section six different ways and finding that all six contained unpublishable errors, it became clear that my thought processes were compromised by exhaustion. So I spent the day generating two pieces of art to flesh out those sections, making the post – when it does appear – more useful to readers. With that done, tomorrow I can turn my attention to finishing the text that will accompany them and getting everything done for a Thursday publication. It wasn’t exactly down-time, but a change can be as good as a Holiday :)

It’s always understandable when there’s a break in posting, and I appreciate the update! Sometimes, taking a pause is necessary for fresh ideas and rest. I’m looking forward to the next post when it’s ready. Do you have any exciting topics planned for the upcoming content?

Hi, Charles. That’s the purpose of posting an update – I find it infuriating when I’m waiting for something and there’s a total lack of communications.
In answer to your question: A lot of people seem to think that non-humans have all the advantages in most Fantasy systems, especially D&D, and especially since the one big advantage that they had in the early versions of the D&D game system gave them was taken away. So I think that people will be surprised at my concluding analysis of which humanoids are best suited to be the ‘standards of measurement’ for labor, and I will be excited to see the responses. At the moment, I’m deep in subsections relating to carts and wagons, and there’s some fun content coming up under that heading, too. And I’m eagerly anticipating actually getting to grips with what’s supposed to be the meat of the current chapter. So there’s plenty to get excited about :)
