Another easy way to get random words is using a random word generator. http://creativitygames.net/generator is a good one as it allows you to generate multiple words simultaneously but also to move them around to visualise your ideas.

@ Swordgleam – it is the name of a movie, but I think it has more potential than that. What else might it mean?

@ Cam Banks – Innuendo is always a bonus, but never intended. We’re a PG-13 site at worst. Which of course means that we would never use language that a modern 13-year old would use…

@Mike Katz – Somehow, I don’t think the vocabulary of a card game would match that of a standard 10,000-word thesaurus. But thanks for the suggestion.

If there is anything in Apples to Apples you don’t like or think is too specific, I guess you could always tape another word to the card.

@ Cam Banks – You bring up a good point. Everyone in my group (myself included) is about as mature as a preteen boy, so I have to pick and choose my names and phrases carefully to make sure there is no way it can be sexualized. Of course the players
view that as a challenge, and I wouldn’t have it any other way…

A lot of the nouns in Apples to Apples are pretty specific, though, and many would only apply to modern games. I like the idea of using a card deck – definitely more convenient. I’m just not sure if Apples to Apples is a good one to use.

Apples To Apples is a party game for matching adejectives for nouns. It comes with a deck of adjective cards and a deck of noun cards (which also contains proper nouns). Using this might be easier than searching a thesaurus, and you can keep it on hand during a game. .-= Mike Katz´s last blog ..What does the Apple Tablet mean for d&d? =-.
