[...] Book of Dead Characters to Celebrate Your Gaming I wish I had thought of this back when I was 10 years old and my first character death occurred. I would love to have a binder with all of my dead in it. Damn good idea. Too bad I didn’t do it. I’m sure there are lots of memories that I have lost from my head that I would recall just by glancing at my roll of the dead. Ah well… [...]

Caption on picture reads that the dead PCs are piled 2d30 high, when in reality they are piled 1d20 + 1d30 high.

I, too, enjoy remembering old characters. Not just the dead ones, but also the retired ones and those that just seemed to go by the wayside with a dropped campaign.

One possible inclusion would be ongoing notations about equipment inheritance. If a dead character had a +3 Mace, for example, the next time such a mace is encountered in that campaign, you could note on the original character sheet, next to the equipment listing for the mace, that Character X now has it. Not only would that make magic feel more rare and avoid the 'magic shoppe of horrors' syndrome* but this would bond new characters with the past. If an item is sold (because something better has been found or whatever), that item might subsequently appear in the posession of a lower-level character - or the arch-enemy!

To make this work, you might need an index of items.
